Cordoba is a city in the foothills of the Sierras Chicas mountains near the center of Argentina, with a population of approximately 1,300,000 people. It is the capital of Cordoba Province, and is Argentina's second largest city. Many of the historical buildings in Cordoba City date from the Colonial Era. Downtown is the most important shopping and banking area. Cordoba has many other historical monuments, the most recognizable is the Jesuit Block, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. Jesuit Block is a group of buildings dating back to the 17th century. Cordoba is one of the most cultural cities in Argentina; music, monuments, and festivals fill the air. There are also theaters and a variety of nightclubs.
