Mendoza is a city in west Argentina with a population is approximately 115,000 people, and is also the capital of Mendoza Province. Mendoza is a frequent stopover for climbers heading up the highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere, or for mountaineering, hiking, horseback riding, rafting, and other outdoor activities; skiers have easy access to the Andes. Mendoza is known for wine and olive oil production. The grape harvest is celebrated each year with the Vendimia Festival; 17 beauty queens are nominated, but only one is selected. The queen for Mendoza City cannot be chosen because she acts as host for all other queens. There is an intense cultural atmosphere, and the city is home to several museums, including the National Wine Museum, but there are no vineyards in the city of Mendoza. Mendoza does offer an art museum in a 1890 mansion, small canals, lots of trees, the plaza in the center of the city, and Internet cafes.
