Fortaleza is the capital of the State of Ceara, located in northeastern Brazil. With a population of approximately 2,000,000 people, it is considered the third most important city in the region in terms of economics. Three thousand hours of sunlight per year and the constant ocean breeze gives the full dimension of this paradise. For those who have more energy, the nightlife is full of attractions, with bars, restaurants, and shows. Fortaleza is known to have the Wildest Monday Nights In the World. Praia de Iracema has bars and restaurants, and Ponte dos Ingleses (English Bridge) is wonderful for watching sunsets and dolphins. The beach water is warm, and the scenery is complemented by small, rustic rafts. Jangadas (rafts used by fisherman), bring back the ocean catch used for the best cuisine. On Thursday nights, the beaches become the sensation of the capital's nightlife, with live music, and lots of cooked crabs. There are several landmarks in the city of Fortaleza, including a playhouse, a lighthouse, a cathedral, the Palace of Light, and Nossa Senhora da Assuncao Fort.
