Varna, Bulgaria is the third largest city in the country and has a population of approximately 352,000 people. It is said that Varna was inhabited before the Greeks established a colony there about 580 B.C. It is the capital of Varna Province and is an important port in the eastern part of the country. The city was briefly named Stalin from 1949 to 1956. Varna is the largest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, and is often called the Sea Capital of Bulgaria. There is a Naval museum and an archaeological museum which houses the oldest gold treasure in the world.
