The Republic of Croatia is a country in Europe that has a population of approximately 4,500,000 people; the capital is Zagreb. Croatia is divided into 20 counties. The geography of the country yields plains, lakes and rolling hills, densely wooden mountains, and rocky coastlines. The country is famous for its many national parks. Croatia has a mixture of climates. Average life expectancy in Croatia is 75 years, and the literacy rate is 98.5 percent. The majority of the population of Croatian are Croats, and there are around 20 minorities. Croatian is the official language which uses the Latin alphabet. In addition to the long, artistic, literary and musical history, Croatia is the origin of the necktie (cravat).
