Arhus, Denmark has a population of approximately 234,000 people, and is the second largest city in the country. Aarhus is the principal port on the peninsula of Jutland on the north shore of Germany. Aarhus is the seat of council for the municipality and the county and is often called, Capital of Jutland. The town is surrounded by natural areas and preserves. Forests expand to a kilometer from the city. Aarhus is the center for education for Jutland and drawing students. Because of the students, cultural activities has been created and now include cafes, discos, movies, museums, amusement parks, etc. Aarhus hosts the International Jazz Festival each year. A part of the city called Old Town has been ranked the third best tourist attraction. There is also an amusement park and a deer park. The Women's Museum is a state-recognized national museum to research, collect, and present knowledge of women's lives and work in Danish culture and history. The museum works closely with the other museums of the world, and started as a grassroots movement under the new women's movement. The Women's Museum received state recognition in 1991, and is visited by approximately 442,000 guests per year.
