Billund, Denmark has a population of approximately 8,700, and is located in the center of the Jutland Peninsula. The municipal council is the town of Billund. Billund is the home of LEGO headquarters. The factory manufactures 90 percent of the products sold in the world. Off-shore manufacturing appears to be in the future, due to competition from other toy manufacturers. Across the street from the factory is the first LEGOLAND them park, which was built in 1968. Billund Airport, Denmark's second busiest, was also built by LEGO in the 1960s; today it is independently operated. By 2007, Billund municipality will disappear, as it will be combined with Grindsted municipality; the two will join to form a new Billund municipality.
