Cairo is the capital city of Egypt (the former United Arab Republic) and has a population of approximately between 14,000,000 to 18,000,000 depending on sources. There appears to be an agreement to disagree, and most sources site than an accurate count is not quite clear. Cairo is Africa's most populated city and the cultural center of the Arab world. Tourists have come to Cairo for centuries to see the monuments and artifacts of Ancient Egypt, especially the Pyramids. Laws against the exportation of treasures has meant that the Egyptian Museum in Cairo will be the only place in the world that many of the items will ever been seen. Cairo has also been Egypt's main center for medical treatment, as well as a major Health Center in the Middle East; many of the hospitals are internationally famous. Cairo is the center for the government offices governing the educational system, and has the largest number of educational schools and higher learning institutes; there are 16 universities and colleges in Cairo.
