Brighton, England is one of the most famous resorts in England. It has a population of approximately 134,000 people. Today, the area that was the fishing village is now The Lane--which is a collection of shops, alleyways, restaurants, bistros, and pubs. The city has a large LGBT community (possibly 25 percent), mostly in the Kemptown area of the city. Brighton Pride, held in August, is one of the most popular and highly attended GLBT events on the calendar. Another item on the calendar is the Brighton Festival--an art exhibit that takes place every May. Brighton is home to the University of Sussex and the University of Brighton, and is sometimes called London By the Sea. In the summer, thousands of students from all over Europe gather to attend language classes. Part of Black Rock Beach been designated as a nude beach; one of the very few in United Kingdom that is located next to an urban area. However, it is said to be highly over-rated.
