Bristol, England is a unitary authority in England. Bristol is the United Kingdom's 11th, and England's 8th, most populated cities. It is also one of England's core cities. Until Liverpool started expanding, Bristol was the second largest English city after London. It has a population of approximately 394,000 people. Its success has been linked to the Port of Bristol, which was in the city center but has now moved to Bristol Channel. Bristol's center was damaged severely during World War II. The area is now a park featuring two bombed-out churches and tiny fragments of a castle. BAE, Airbus, and Rolls-Royce are all in Bristol. After World War II, the Bristol Aeroplane Company started manufacturing luxury hand-built cars. The car company became independent in 1960. Bristol has several art museums, galleries, shops, and music influences. The Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery is a collection of natural history, archaeology, glassware, ceramics and art.
