Coventry, England has a population of approximately 305,000 people, and is the 8th largest city in England. Attractions or events involving Coventry are involved with the British motor industry, the Cathedral, and the exploits of Lady Godiva. Over the years, Coventry has become known for its international reputation as Europe's major city of peace and reconciliation, and holds an annual Peace Month celebration. The most well-known attraction, Coventry Cathedral, was almost completely destroyed during World War II. Only the outer walls and spire survived. A new cathedral of the same name was opened in 1962 next to the old one. Coventry has many art galleries, museums, theaters, etc. The legend of Lady Godiva, who is said to have ridden naked on the back of a horse in protest to high taxes that were being collected for her husband. Apparently, the residents were asked to look away as she went buy, but one man didn't and he allegedly went blind because he "peeped," and he then become the first "Peeping Tom." While it is thought that she probably didn't ride "bare" (as in naked), it has been suggested that she probably was riding "bareback" (which is something entirely different). There is a statue in her honor over the city center.
