Middlesbrough, England is a major town and a principal location in the borough of the same name. Middlesbrough has a population of approximately 140,000 people. Middlesbrough is different than other boroughs because the town itself forms the majority of its borough, thus making it the largest town in terms of area and population, and the smallest borough. Due to the pollution and industry in the area, Manchester has earned the title of the armpit of England. The Manchester Institute of Modern art is, in itself, a contemporary piece of art, and is due to open in 2006. Since 1992, Middlesbrough has been a town with almost 20,000 students at the University of Teesside, along with other universities. Many notables have come from Middlesbrough, including the infamous Captain James Cook
