Wolverhampton, England is an industrial, commercial and university city and metropolitan borough with a population of approximately 240,000 people. In 2000, the United Kingdom granted Wolverhampton city status, making it one of the three Millennium Cities. Railroads reached Wolverhampton in 1837. The station was demolished in 1965, but the area has been declared a nature preserve. The arts and music influence is great, with rock groups and soul/R&B singers coming from Wolverhampton. Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin was also a native. Wolverhampton has several live music venues, one of which is as big as a football field. There are museums and artist galleries, and studio crafts galleries. In addition to several sports teams and arenas, Wolverhampton is also home to one of the leading speedway clubs in the United Kingdom
