Mariehamn (or Maarianhamina) is the capital of Aland, an autonomous territory under Finnish rule. Mariehamn is a town, and interestingly, the capital and only town in Aland. It represents the only port of call on the Viking and Silja lines between Sweden and Finland. For the tourist, the town offers little in terms of activities, and refreshments (food or drink) are very expensive. There are lots of streets and beautiful green spaces. The museum ship Pommern is near the ferry terminals. It is said to be well worth the rather steep admission fee. Some bus routes give free access between the ferries.
