Tammerfors, (or Tampere), Finland is a city in southern part of the country located between Lake Nasijarvi and Lake Pyhajarvi. The two lakes differ in level, and the Tammerkoski rapids linking them has been an important power source throughout history. A city of approximately 200,000 people, plus more than 300,000 including neighboring areas, is the second most important urban center in Finland after Helsinki, and the biggest inland city in the Nordic countries. Tampere has been thought to be among the top Finnish cities, and is known for its active cultural atmosphere. Popular writers and poets have called Tampere their home. There are theaters, institutions, and an international theater festive held every August. The Tampere Film Festival, the International Short Film Festival is held in March, and Tampere's Urban Rock Festival is held in July. The city has two hockey teams which are the most successful teams in Finland. There are a number of tourist attractions including a dolphin park, an amusement park and the Nasinneula Tower, with a revolving restaurant on top.
