Annecy, France is a town with a population of approximately 53,000 people, located between Geneva and Chambery. It's history was strongly influenced by both of these towns between the 10th and 19th centuries. The country is at the northern end of the lake, and occupies a location between Italy, Switzerland, and France. Two cultural events take place every year, the Animated Film Festival and the Italian Film Festival. There is also a Spanish Film Festival every March. When visiting Annecy, sites of interest include The Palais de I'Isle (old prison) built in the 12th century, Chateau d'Annecy (Annecy Castle), the Cathedral of Saint-Pierre, the rue Sainte-Claire, and other historic places. The rue royale has several shops, gardens, and a fountain of Saint Jean.
