Germany is one of the world's leading industrialized countries, located in central Europe, with a population of approximately 82,400,000 people. Germany is bordered by Denmark, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Netherlands. Germany is the European Union's most populated and economically powerful member state; it also plays a role as one of the world's major powers. Germany has a long and tragic political history, most notable, World War II. There is a vast amount of information available to those tourists trying to search for ancestry or geneaology within Germany. Germany is often known as the land of poets and thinkers because of its many cultural contributions. German literature dates back to the Middle Ages and includes such classics as Grimms Fairytales, and the German translation of the Bible.
