Rhodes is the main city of the Island of Rhodes in the Aegean Sea. It is the capital of the prefecture Dodecanese, and has a permanent population of approximately 60,000 people. Rhodes has been famous since the medieval era, and has one of the best preserved towns. In addition, the Colossus of Rhodes is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. While much of the island is old world, there are current amenities such as multi-ethnic restaurants, nightclubs, and shops. While some complain that these newer additions take way for the charm of an older city, it is sometimes nice to be somewhere that speaks (at least partially) your native language, and can exchange money into correct currency. There are a lot of produce farmers on the island who grow grapes. Others raise goats. There is a large military base on the island
