Galway is the main city in the Province of Connacht and the capital of County Galway. Located on the west coast of Ireland, Galway has a population of approximately 66,000 people. It is the third largest city in the Republic of Ireland. Galway has a strong local economy with complementary business sectors, including manufacturing, industry, tourism, retail and distribution, education, healthcare and services. Galway is unique among Irish cities because of the strength of its Irish language, music, song and dancing. It is often called The Bilingual Capital of Ireland. The city is well known for its ethnicity, due to the sign that reads, Galway Gaeltacht or Irish Speaking Area. The language is visible on shops and road signs, with bilingual signage on display around the city. Irish theater, TV, and music are an integral part of Galway life with both the National Irish Language Theater, and TG4 headquarters. This has lured an Irish-speaking professional population to the city and country and has created a renewal of interest in language and culture. One of the finest medieval castles in Ireland (Lynch's Castle) is now a branch of a bank.
