Bardufoss is a small village with a population of approximately 2,200 people, in northern Norway. It has a civilian and military airport, suitable for landing bomber aircraft and other heavy planes. It is also home to the Norwegian Army's 6th Division. Bardufoss is known for having a more continental climate, so the winters are colder compared to coastal areas. There is an abundance of flora and natural resources. Every spring, the town of Bardufoss takes part in an ancient ritual celebrating the rebirth of the sun. People line the streets in colorful garments, and houses are decorated with brilliant colors. Then, to celebrate the emergence of the sun after the cold winter, residents shed their clothing and run and dance through the streets. There is also an old fable about a soldier who haunts young children who stay awake after sunset.
