Lillehammer is a small town and municipality in the country of Oppland, Norway with a population of approximately 6,000 people. The city has been well preserved from the late 19th century concentration of wooden houses, and enjoys a picturesque location overlooking Lake Mjosa and the Lagen River, surrounded by mountains. The main street is said to be a wonderful place to watch people, shop, and dine. Lillehammer was the host city of the 1994 Winter Olympic Games. In addition to the Olympic site, other attractions include Maihaugen, the largest open-air museum with 185 buildings, an art museum, the world's oldest paddle steamer in service, a ski jump (and skiing destinations) with forest and mountain terrain, an army unit located northwest of Lillehammer, and the rock carvings at Drotten.
