Poznan is a the fifth largest city, located in west-central Poland, with a population of approximately 580,000 people. Poznan is the fourth biggest industrial center, and is the administrative capital of the Greater Poland Voivodship. Poznan is one of the oldest cities in Poland, making it an important historical center. Poznan's cathedral is the earliest church in the country, containing the tombs of the first Polish rulers. Poznan is home to some state-owned universities and some smaller, private colleges. Adam Mickiewicz University (UAM) is one of the biggest and most influential universities in Poland. Poznan has dozens of sports clubs, activities, and related events. The city is a center for trade, industry, and education. The annual Malta Theater festival is probably the most cultural event of the city. The Henryk Wieniawski Violin Festival is held every five years, and the Classical Music Festival is held every year.
