Ponta Delgada is a municipality on Sao Miguel Island in the Azores, with a population of approximately 65,000 people. Composed of 24 parishes, Ponta Delgada serves as the seat of the executive government of the Azores Autonomous Region. Ponta Delgada is the tourist heart of the Azores. Museums and monuments are everywhere, and the historic streets connect everything from hotels and churches to shops and restaurants. The large harbor boats from all over the globe, and the active nightlife, attract tourists and residents. During the summer, thousands of people walk along the famous Infante Dom Henrique Avenue (by the seaside). Intra-island and domestic flights leave daily from the airport on the western edge of the city. North of the city are suburbs, and agricultural (pineapple) land. In addition to tourist attractions, there is a university, schools, a gymnasium, arena, banks, post offices, and otherwise traditional municipal offices. The northwest part of the Sete Cidades mountain range border the city.
