Car hire Porto

Porto is Portugal's second largest city, with a population of approximately 263,000 in 15 parishes, and is the seat of the Porto District and capital of the Norte region. The name of the country and Port Wine owe their names to the city of Porto. One of Portugal's internationally appreciated products is Port Wine, which gets its distinctive taste from brandy that is added during the fermentation process. Porto is also the heart of the Greater Porto Agglomeration. It is one of the must industrialized districts in Portugal, and the city of Porto in particular is called The Capital of the North because it serves as the center of a higher industrialized northern region of Portugal, and is well known for its enterprising spirit, characteristic culture, people, and local cuisine. The first Portuguese moving pictures were taken in Porto and shown there in 1896. Porto has several museums, concert halls, theaters, cinemas, libraries, and book shops. One of the museums is dedicated especially to the Portuguese artistic movements of the 19th and 20th centuries, and the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Sarralves Foundation. The city has concert halls of rare beauty and elegance; an example is the Coliseu do Porto. In 2001, Porto shared the designation of European Culture Capital. Because of this, the construction of the major concert hall space was initiated. Most recently, the historic center was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Fantasporto International Film Festival is also a cultural event of the city, attracting many national and foreign film commentators to the city. Several architectural examples can be found in Porto. A guided visit to the old city's stock exchange and, in particular, the Arab Room, is a site no visitor should miss. Porto is a small but extremely rich city in terms of culture and history. Some of the most ancient houses have been abandoned and local government doesn't maintain them; many of the city's oldest houses are at risk of collapsing.
