Porto Santo is a Portuguese island 50km northeast of Madeira Island in the North Atlantic Ocean. The main urban area is one of the six Portuguese vilas/municipalities that have only one parish. On Porto Santo Island, the city of Porto Santo, also known as Vila Baleira, is the only parish, with a population of approximately 4,500 people. The island has an airport that provides a 15-minute flight to Funchal. It is the northeastern island of the Madeira Archipelago. The municipality has no boundaries, which means it is encircled by the Atlantic Ocean. Porto Santo Island is about 9km long, and its main industry is tourism. A new golf course will be the largest course in the entire Madeira Archipelago and will be able to handle 500 people playing golf at once. There will be two 18-hole courses and one 9-hole course. The golf complex will also include tennis courses and a horse-riding center. The complex will be expanded to include other sports and will make it the largest sports complete in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. This will also extend the tourist season of Porto Santo and will be another attraction for visitors and residents. Porto Santo has several schools, an arena, a gymnasium, several churches, a museum, and other popular locales.
