Kristianstad is a city in Scania, and the seat of the Skåne Regional Council, in southern Sweden. Kristianstad has a population of approximately 31,000 people. Part of Kristianstad sits on the lowest point in Sweden, 2.41m below sea level. Dams and pumps protect the city from floods. Kristianstad is the only city in the world carrying the insignia of a foreign monarch. Absolut Vodka, owned by V&S Group, is produced by the town of Åhus, located in the municipality. Kristianstad was the main military seat in Scania for a long time, boosting military camps and trainings. After the reforms and military cutbacks of the 1990's much of these have been closed.
