Lycksele is a city of approximately 6,000 people and is the seat of the Municipality in Västerbotten County, northern Sweden. The municipality traces its history to the Lycksele Parish, which was in effect during the 19th century. When it was turned into a municipality with the 1970s reform, it became one of Sweden's 20 largest. Lycksele is the oldest permanent Sami settlement in Swedish Lappland. The first Swedish Sami school, Skytteanska skolan, was built in 1634.
