Malmö is the third largest city, in the Province of Skåne, in Sweden. Malmo has a population of approximately 270,000 people and has become Sweden's most multi-ethnic city, with 24 percent of the population born abroad, more than a third being first- or second-generation immigrants, and the proportion of Muslims estimated to be 16 percent. Malmo's old buildings and parks appeal to outsiders, and is also a popular place to shop. During the last few years, a university has been established; the city is now focusing extensively on education, arts and culture. Malmo has retained historical charm with an old town section filled with small shops. Light Hall, an extension to the library, has walls made of glass panels. Beach lovers will enjoy a man-made shallow beach, where an open air bath opened in the 1890s; people swimming all year round, and a new boardwalk. Malmo also has new theaters, museums, and an opera house
