Norrköping is a city in Östergötland, and is the seat of the Norrkoping Municipality, in mid-east Sweden. Norrkoping has a population of approximately 83,000 people. Water power from the Motala and the good harbor were the foundation of this once industrial city, known for its textile industry. By 1970, only 10 factories and 1,200 employees remained. In that year, the Holmen Paper Mill, with its history of 350 years, closed and another 900 people were let go. To counter the effects, several governmental workplaces were moved to Norrköping. As of 2002, Norrköping had a center of culture and education. The campus of Linköping University has its own Symphonic Orchestra, a small airport, a high-tech industry park, a museum, and a soccer team.
