Zürich is the capital of the Canton (district) of Zürich, and the largest city in Switzerland, with a population of approximately 366,500 people. As an important commercial center, Zurich is widely considered to be one of the world's global cities. There are at least four churches or cathedrals dating back as far as 875, Lindenhof, the site of the Roman and Medieval castle, guild houses, old town, and a shopping district. The heart of Zurich's financial district is home to the world- headquarters of several Swiss banks. Elegant palaces and old hotels, as well as the famous Sprüngli-Confiserie (café and tea-room) with its chocolate and cakes, lure tourists back to Zurich time and time again. In the Credit Suisse Palace, there is a very exclusive mall named Lichthof: Restaurants, shops and bars. There are also gardens, parks, zoos, modern architecture, the auto-bahn (highway with no speed limit). There are at least 10 museums, and art galleries. Zurich has ranked as the city with the highest quality of living anywhere in the world for four years in a row.
