Alanya is a seaside resort located on the Turkish Mediterranean Sea Riviera. The city has a population of 150,000 people, but during the summer the population increases due to large numbers of tourists. Alanya was first discovered by pirates when it was called Coracesium. Tourists are drawn to the area because of reasonable prices, pleasantly warm weather, sandy beaches, and cuisine. In addition, there are ruins, museums, historic sites, mountains, caves, waterfalls, and national parks. Alanya hosts events such as an International Triathalon, a mountain bike competition, basketball, swimming marathons, and handball tournaments.
