Ankara is the capital of Turkey and the country's second largest city. The city has a population of approximately 4,319,167 people; it is also the capital of Ankara Province. Ankara is an important commercial and industrial city, is the center of the Turkish government, and houses all foreign embassies. Ankara invites tourists to view the old castle and the remains of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine architecture. The most remarkable architecture is the Temple of Augustus, on the walls of which is the famous Monumentum Ancyranum. Ankara Citadel, Roman Theatre, the Temple of Augustus; the Roman Bath and other historic sites must be seen to truly appreciated. The city also has several parks, zoos and gardens, as well as old marketplaces for shopping. There are at least nine colleges and universities in Ankara, some of them are known as being the best in the country.
