Las Vegas, Nevada has a population of approximately 576,000 people. While mostly known for the Las Vegas Strip of casinos (approximately 80) and low class or basic wedding chapels (over 50 of them), there are a number of historical events that took place in Las Vegas. For example: the completion of the Hoover Dam in 1936, nuclear testing from 1950s to 1960s; four floods since 1955; and the MGM Grand Hotel fire in 1980. For those not interested in gambling (the casinos stay open 24 hours as day, every day), there are theme parks, a Casino Legends Hall of Fame, an Elvis-A-Rama Museum, the Ethel M. Chocolate Factory & Botanical Cactus Garden, Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, a King Tut Exhibit, and much more. Famous people are often at the casinos in Las Vegas, but you are not likely to run into them.
